Just about to order a replacement for my knacked intercooler, but slightly thrown by apparent VIN compatibility.

Mine's a VA, for which the complete radiator-and-intercooler assembly (p/n PFI100041, formerly ESR3683) is supposedly OK, but not just the intercooler on its own (p/n FTP8030). Is the one in the assembly actually a different part?

I think you should be fine with any 300tdi intercooler, I believe they are all the same. However I am not an expert in correct, I am more along the lines of what works, I have an aftermarket 300tdi intercooler fitted to my 200tdi engine. The only difference is the orientation of the pipes coming out of the intercooler.

Is its apparent "incompatibility" down to Land Rover simply not listing the intercooler separately post-TA VINs, rather than actually changing its design?

Potentially, Throw up some photos of what you have fitted currently and people will be able to comment on if i looks the same as a standard 300tdi version.
I have just had the issue with brake calliper gallery seals. For a defender land rover only list the complete calliper part number, but for the RRC they list the individual items and the calipers are the same.
