It works, it doesn't, it's on, no it's gone.........three re-gasses recently, the dealer said it was a faulty valve and fixed it (he said) and it lasted a week and yesterday there just a hint of coolness about it (not much - more wishful thinking) so I'm wondering how cold it should be? I've had plenty of motors where the air-con was but not my L322. I think I need a specialist check, not sure what I can do myself.

Quite likely it's the condensor leaking, had the same twice on my mates L322. When working it should be ice cold.

I was afraid of that. Cheers. The coldest it's been was when I parked next to a Mr Whippy van in Scarborough last week.
Is it a home job? Probably not. I'll check prices - I presume LR replacement only?
 
It's annoying when you Google 3.6 V8 air con condenser and you get a list of air compressors. The paid for ad merchants are taking over. Anyone any thoughts or experience of after-market condensors? I've tracked one down to Tyneside which is only an hour away.

I would say it is. They should have done a leak test before recharging. I take it when they say a valve was leaking they referred to the connections to the expansion valve. When i did mine i vacuumed it down and left it for a week before recharging. They should have been able to manage an hour which is pretty normal with a manual machine. Automatic machines are of course a law unto themselves. .
 
You are probably both right: they had the car for two weeks. It's a but of a long round trip - 120 miles - (yes I know not that far) but it would really suit my circumstances at the moment to take it to my local indy and get it done. Easy way out I know.

It is likely a condenser leak, but i would make sure before you spend good money on a condenser unless it is confirmed leaking. It may just be an O'ring. You would feel a little silly if it was.

Lots of the aircon machines fail to detect small aicon condensor leaks. Tracer dye in the re-gas helps, the blue stain giving the location away. Often cannot be seen is the leak is on the rear side of the condensor.

A vacuum drop should indicate a leak. A good machine should indicate that. Certainly dye will find it. I do mine with my vac pump and gauges. 28 inches of Hg is about as much as it will pull. Just pull it down and close valves and check for drop after an hour or so. Better than any automatic machine just takes a bit longer.
