red OTA is bad. Go for blue.
Went to shop and they had multiple types of blue! The guy in the shop said that the comma range is tricky as the colours aren't the same as people expect. I.e. G30 has a red label, but the coolant isn't red.

So I'm confused!

Anybody know the comma equivilant of 'blue Coolant' for the 300tdi?
 
Done that. Blue has OTA in it! Green seems to be the only one without OTA. Anybody suggest what they have gone for? It's the same range Halfords do

Green/ yellow Rover/Land Rover antifreeze was used in both of my LRs which was replaced every two years, I use the red OAT antifreeze in my D1 now which is replaced every five years, so happy with that.

Also I have a classic car using the blue antifreeze which is even sold in some diy sheds, this year I went on line an purchased blue antifreeze from Autochem, it’s really blue, it will be replaced again in two years time.

Colour isn’t an indicator, read the spec on the label is, or search ‘blue antifreeze concentrate’ on eBay then just take your pick on the brand.

I recently checked the Comma site. Red G30 recommended for Y2K TD5 defender. I think it's OAT. I'm tempted to stick with Land Rover green antifreeze.

Older classic vehicles not individually listed but blue Coldmaster seems to be the thing to use for anything that would have used Bluecol / ethylene glycol in the past.

@discool is your D1 a V8 or Tdi? I ask because when my 90 had the D1 3.5V8 fitted they used red OAT (new cooling system and everything flushed out first) and when I queried because of the warnings and scares I've read about, this they said it's not a problem and use it all the Landys.
8 months and ~3k miles later and all's ok cooling wise. Ant comment?

Hi capo, V8 3.9 is the engine, OAT antifreeze has been used in it for the last 18 years, replaced every 5 years.

IAT (Inorganic Acid Technology) also called Silicate Antifreeze, is old technology. This should be replaced every 2 years. I think it’s designed for pre1998 vehicles. This is what Land Rover recommended for the 200tdi, I would guess for pre 200tdi engines too.

OAT (Organic Acid Technology), this should be replaced every 5-10 years depending on manufacturers spec and original strength/mix. I believe this is post 1998, but I don’t know for certain about the crossover and when Land Rover started using this.
 
G30 is OAT coolant with a variety of manufacturer approvals, concentrated version is dark pink, ready mixed is light pink
G40 is OAT coolant G12++ approval for the vag mobiles
G64 is OAT coolant, mostly carries truck approvals but also has approval for all volvo passenger cars 2018 on
G48 is IAT coolant, also with a variety of approvals, concentrated version is dark blue, ready mixed is greeny tinged
G05 is IAT coolant, generic old meg brew with nitrite additives for wet liner blocks, i.e industrial equipment mostly

Super longlife is the cheap OAT coolant, no specific manufacturer approvals / additive packages
Coldmaster is the cheap IAT coolant, no specific manufacturer approvals / additive packages

Both the cheap ones can be had in the 20l containers for £40-50, making them lovely bargains! (And are almost certainly the same / very similar base gear as in g30 and g48)
