Clutch pedal to the floor and fluid underneath

So, driving home from work it started to get difficult to select gears, eventually coming to a complete stop at a crossroads....
Managed to get out of the way using the starter motor.

Had fluid dripping from underneath and no pedal pressure at all. After investigating, the master cylinder looks fine, nice and dry, no fluid on any of the push fit connections.
Not sure what to do next......

I seem to recall a thread about this somewhere. Split slave cylinder or something.

And another reason for its failure - broken or bent bracket?

Just had a quick search, looks like the thread was about a 1.8 petrol, I have the TD4..

I feel a big job is on the cards..

As long as you've checked for fluid loss from the master cylinder where it joins the pushrod (check at the top of the clutch pedal), you've probably got a split slave.

Yep I would agree with the slave being fubar.......happened on mine, the fluid underneath will have come from the bell housing.....unfortunately it's a gear box out job to replace.

Have had a really good look and the only place there is fluid is around the bell housing.

Better get my sleeves rolled up.....

Yes, if the master cylinder is dry and there is fluid leakage from the bell housing area then unfortunately the Concentric Slave Cylinder is leaking, which is a gearbox off job to replace.

Right, on with removing gearbox and I have had it quite easy up to now..... famous last words.

Cant see how the IRD breather pipe comes off, is there a retaining bolt?

The IRD is now off and sat in the garage, just need to remove the gear selector roll pin and drop the gearbox itself...

Thanks, this is the first gearbox I have removed, from a car anyway.

Will be fitting a new clutch, it does judder when setting off a little. I seem to remember reading that the flywheel oil seal can cause this.
Is it worth replacing the seal while Im in there?
