Went for a drive yesterday and had a couple of unrelated issues on my S11
Firstly the ticker was unusually fast, odd as I don't remember turning the screw in to increase the speed lately hum!
So I duly turned it out until I had a nice tick over but then every junction I came to it just stoped What is going on?
Secondly after driving over a speed bump and then turning a loud clonk/clunk could be heard from the front.
Any ideas would be helpful ?

What engine, and what carburettor??

Sounds like carb just needs setting up.

Clonks when turning are not unusual on series motors, worn spring bushes could be your culprit.

It's a 2.25 and fitted with a weber ICH
Spring bushes were supposed to have been checked over as part of a substitute MOT by a local land rover place!

You, or some willing volunteer needs to get underneath with a pry bar and look for any joint with excessive movement. Personally, as long as the wheel nuts are tight, I would leave it until summat drops off. Not familiar with weber carbs, my only knowledge of them on a series is to avoid them but take out the air mixture screw and give it a clean.

We fitted a new weber carb on the S2a and it was very good, no problems. If you still have the carb operating with the metal linkages it might well be wear in that, we had same problem with a Zenith carb.
Clonking noise could be just about anything on the steering or suspension.

All sounds like good advice and yes the wheel nuts are tight and no visible signs of anything being broken or adrift so will leave it for now until the weather gets less windy. Will check out the carb for now.

Engine stopping on a series 2 when you are slowing to a stop can be a sign of failed or failing engine and or box mountings. The engine gearbox moves about and affects the linkage to the carb. Another sign is changing revs when you pull on the handbrake.

This is true, if I have to stop on a steepish hill, my engine speed at tickover gets so slow I have to keep blipping the throttle to prevent the engine cutting out.
