Well @wammers @tomcat59alan and @brianp38dse I took the dash binnacle off and both lights fittings were completely missing??? I took redundant ones from the air suspension and trailer light and turned the key. Now only the SRS lights come on and no dash lights, lcd display or rev counter. I've just disconnected the battery for half a hour.....

If it's an early one, then you still need the fault to be cleared, even after it has been fixed.

It's only the later P38's, Post '99 with the side air bags/seatbelt pretensioners that have the ECU that self-clears on startup. Unfortunately everything before that needs to be hooked up to diagnostics and have the fault cleared - then it will play nicely again.

I am guessing that a previous owner removed the lamps to get it through an MOT or something like that so the actual SRS warning lamp didn't show up.

OK thanks, I might try and get it to an independent to get it tested then. It's got a fairly new battery on it and I read that if it was flat for a while that can upset it. I think I'll stick to 300tdi's in the future
