Thanks for the reply. I have seen something on another forum that says if it has air con it will have the resistor under the decker panel and those without, have the resistor in the blower casing. So this will hopefully mean mines under the panel.
Did you manage to change it without removing the panel ?
I also read that the plug can be a bastid to get at !
 
yes and yes, I couldnt get the plug through so I cut and spliced the wires through the hinge hole, but not very well insulated IMOH as no wire length to work with or access
 
tbh if the plug doesnt pull through I would take the decker panel off to do a proper job if you are keeping the car. if it does pull though your laughing

I shall have to wait and see... have got to get the part ordered and I've just spent the best part of 100 quid on bits already this year :eek:

Sort the brakes out.. then worry about the blower.. it still works on full so it is still usable.

no worries mate, its not to bad to get the decker off, just bonnet off 4 bolts then pull wiper arms off and then 4 bolts for decker panel :D
 
Like Fett said, I would pop the bonnet and decker panels off, it makes access so much easier. I've done a couple of these and it is better to remove the panels, if nothing else it also gives you a chance to clean/lubricate the wiper mechanism and clean out the drains on the bulkhead.

I know it sounds like a big job but it really isn't, you should be able to get the bonnet and decker off in about 30mins but do be careful with the bonnet hinges as they have strong assister springs on them. Good luck.

So the replacement resistor pack from Britpart, as mentioned some were in this thread works ok then ?
I can't see anyone else selling them. Anyway... I have just received a shiny new brake calliper today, so that will have to take priority.
I will get one of these resistor packs bought and put it the shed ready for when it gets really cold !

mine was made by atlantic british in the states and just sold in the uk by britpart if it makes you feel any better lol
 
Hi,

I ordered my Atlantic British resistor pack from Island 4x4 yesterday. It arrived today and I had it installed in an hour. I am at best average with spanners but it wasn't that hard.

I did mine without removing the decker panel and accessed via the vents. I've no doubt removing the bonnet etc would be loads easier but there was only me and I didn't fancy doing it single handed. My plug pulled through just enough to plug the new pack in, although it almost disappeared into the dash! Make sure you either tie some string round it or wedge something in the hole to stop if falling back in (my ratchet did the trick)

The fixing points didn't really line up with the old resistor bracket so I riveted mine to the bracket holding the pollen filter in place. I think/hope this will be OK - it's quite flimsy so time will tell.

All I needed to do was drill out the pollen filter rear stay to get access and rivet it back in place afterwards. Now I have a 3 speed fan again!!

That's the one I've seen advertised Fett. Good to now there still available, many things aren't when you actually ring company's up.
extremely annoying when they don't remove things from there site that they no longer stock :mad:

I am usually working on my own Adam, which is why I might try and fit it as you have... we will see... there may be some willing assistant at hand !

if that plug pulls through you are laughing, mine didnt which is typical of that car. re the bracket wherever that car is now it still has my mates socket on one of the nuts :p
