Yeah alan, had 4 myself, from a 3 door early 70's to the flash TDI for chaufering, changed the TDi's every 10,900 miles, had a great deal with Crawley 4x4.
 
I have a '87 Vouge which has the high comp. (9.35:1) engine, the same ZF & no I didn't know the numbers built. If it was originally used for that purpose I'm surprised at the choice of transmission as a manual would have been quicker & more controllable. What are the 'unusual bits' & is the car fitted with anti-roll bars I wonder because LR did not perfect their own set-up until the early 'nineties but sometimes used a Harvey-Bailey system in the interim Sorry I can't add to the 'fan debate as I'm happy for my indie to do the swearing. As far as I know the eleven blade was introduced with the efi version of the 3.5 in Oct '85.
Ok, only 106 were built in 1987, each taken 3 days to build, no anti-roll bars, 235 psi springs, the same the police used plus HD shocks, my off road 3 door
used the same, went round a bend like a rocket on rails. Mine went to Cowies of Colchester, never registerd, stored by gchq for 3 years with full hc lump,
high lift cam, solid lifters, 2 piston cleaves, loads of extra wires & a separate rad for the gear box, auto is more durable than a manual when your
giving it a serious hammering my 3 door stick snapped under pressure, had to use a long screwdriver !
Ive driven a sport mk1 & mine is a damn site quicker, no wonder they built a new one.
 
Well I tried both ways, wd 40 overnight, monkey wrench & a hammer, the main problem is that the water pump pulley
has only got the belt's to stop it moving, even put heat on it , but nothing, but it's only a bit of steel, right.
My '87 isn't normal. ex SAS, used for 3 years as a chase & capture motor, so its running a full high compression
lump. very quick & economical with 4 speed auto Z box & overdrive built in. Many unusual bits on her !

Pass on that one, I too would have thought that an o/d was useless, but that's how I bought it, oh & the first years of its
history I got from the Brooklands Museum Auction chap who delves into every car that they sell or might sell. But I'm
not selling, to much fun.

I had the same 'stick' problem once on a S3 whilst off-roading, snapped just above the ball & I had to use mole grips!
My '87 has the genuine LR anti-roll bar system (retro-fitted by PO) & also handles well as a consequence. The advantage being that you retain the original suspension & ride whilst only sacrificing half-an-inch of suspension travel, but then I doubt the intended users would have cared about comfort ;)

I was beginning to think Gold Rover had him locked up and he was enjoying it to much, that or he must still be busy down the docks to pay for his motor:D:D
 
I'll give you a tip,

Use an air chisel on the side of the nut in the direction it must be undone.
We have also seen a breaker drill undo them with just the chisel action.

Only one draw back my son, the nut is attached to the viscous fan unit so you have to buy a new chinky bit of crap,
but after crafting my own geter offa using a 17"x 1/8thx 1/2" bar & a whole drilled in one end & attached to the fan pulley
& touching the chassis rail then one tap on the monkey wrench with a hammer & off it came, job done.
Shame after doing all the work to the EFi I cant get any fuel to the plugs even though there's plenty of fuel pumping
Still, it gives me something to get sorted before the BSB at Thruxton. many thanks for the info Rick.
 
Yep I got one, well 2 to be fair but one is a parts car.

Which way are you turning to undo, it's a reverse thread.

The can be a bugger to get off mind.
Easy when you drill a whole in a 17" by 1/2" bit of steel bolt it to the water pump pulley & tap the monkey
wrench to the right with a hammer, came off by hand.
