Just been looking round the forums (not this one) and found some people saying G3 is a bit harsh and something like Scratch X is better/less severe. Plus you can get that from Halfords

I'm one of those people that kill things with sand paper because I get carried away...

G3 is outstanding.. wonder if they used water with it? its turned mine back to how it was before them lanes

plus u can get it from most spares shops

There were also warnings about disastrous consequences of letting it dry out why you were using it!!

I think a lot of it will shift just with elbow grease/big machine.

No idea where to get G3 anyway, so may try the Scratch X stuff.

How much do you end up using to do a whole car????
I think it is the whole car - the roof has the worst scratch!

elbow grease? feck me u'll be there all week shiftin that lot by hand, spares shop £15 or less for 400g or £12 ebay for 1kg

They're Harvard 410T, complete with case and charger.

They definitely work, but the charger is just that - an unregulated charger to charge the 10 batteries they take. So although I could check they received and transmitted, the sound was crap because of the crap power. I haven't got 10 batteries lying around.

A quick search found these on ebay so you know what huge bricks they are !!

Well I've cleaned most of the mud off, plus got loads more off the underneath.

Now doing it in proper daylight I'm finding all the extra little holes where the mud hides.

The mud on the paint is evil - it goes clear when its wet and the car looks clean - then it dries whit again!!!

I think I've got most of it now.

As for polishing with power - my mate reckons you can get the polishing pads to fit on angle grinders.....now I've got one of those beasts, just need to find a pad that fits.
Might get funny looks taking a grinder to the paint work!!

The Disco has come up quite well with just a good was - 90% of the 'scratches' washed off. I'm going to leave the polishing for now - too much other stuff to do first.

Anyway, thought I'd go and bang some of that dust we were driving through, out of the air filter.

2 things I notice;

1) I've found the rest of the mud - the engine is covered. I guess the fan went in the muddy water. Must have been when I briefly parked so that 90boy could play with his tow rope. What's the best way to clean the engine? Can I just go at it with the hose pipe like I did the underneath???

2) I was a little worried by the amount of mud under the air filter. It was all before the filter, but it means quite a lot splashed in the air intake!!!! How much were those snorkels?
