Chequer Plating - best way to attach

I am contemplating the need to attach some chequer plate to the sill and door bottoms of my 110 Defender. I've never done this before, so your views on 'How to' would be most gratefully received. Mainly about; rivet,screw or other attachment means, sealants and bodywork prep?:)
 
Nowt wrong with chequer plate ;) Stainless steel pop rivet to fasten on, buy sum thin rubber matting and make a template of it so it acts as a gasket and sandwich in between chequer and panel your fixing too, jobs a good'n :D

Won't stainless fasteners corrode both the bodywork and the chequer plate if its aluminum too?

Mine is all screw on with counter-sunk screws
 
Both my wife's Landy and my own have bits of chequer plate attached, its rivited with aluminium rivets on both. Mine also did have a bit on the bonnet, but it was held on with sealant, so fell off!

ali not steel rivets! :doh:

Id still be doing a small bead of sealant round the edge though to keep water out.
