I did this mod on my BMW 120d but tried it on my Freelander TD4 and works perfect.

For this Cheap Mod you need a 22mm Cooper Pipe end stop like this.


You then need to disconnect your EGR and give it a good clean out.

Then pop the end stop in the EGR, its a perfect fit nice and snug!

You wont need to drill a hole in it like the one pictured, that is just to stop the engine management light coming on for BMW's.
 
Yes did my own and have also converted 2 others for friends .Perfect fix for under £2 to all intents and purposes looks like a fully functioning EGR no lose vac pipes nothing for a fussy MOT examiner to see.
My last MOT car went through with lower emissions than last year. little bit Livelier bit better on fuel although not much still well worth doing just to keep the crud out of your pipes
 
No just leave in place it can operate the valve but as the inlet is sealed nothing happens.

Have read a thread where it is said that the copper cap will corrode quickly due to heat, but my German neighbour has had this fix on his TD4 for over 3 years (his brother a BMW technician did it before he came to Spain) when inspected couple of months ago it was fine just slight pitting.

If you have this fear you can source a stainless cap of the same size only difference is its threaded internally not that that will make any difference,

hope u didn't mind but shared it on anything goes

just thought it was a very inventive idea


suppose it would just oxidise and go green ,but could easily replace it every year , or check the condition

would have blanked off the vacuum pipe but great idea never the less

Hi. my engine is td4 bmw 2.0l engine so do i need to drill hole to avoid engine lights showing? 2) i have blocked off the valve with end stop as explained! when refitting blocked off egr valve,does the previously leaking pipe to engine block with jubilee type clamp still have to be reconnected to the egr valve end ? any advice appreciated

Did you do the same way as described above by Space, with a pipe end?
 
Nope just disconnected the exhaust intake pipe to the rear of the EGR unit slipped in the end cap reconnected the exhaust gas intake .
