depends on what you want to achieve ,a std looking vehicle with std parts ,or just a running 300tdi on lt77 with bodged looking engine fitting ,both will work okay

ideal would be 380 box and the bits all standard parts there after, but these few parts are hard to find and expensive, was just thinking if i could keep chassis standard and make engine mounts so i can fit the tdi upto the 77 but still gave me the option of changing to r 380 later.

You can fit R380 without seat box!!

Fitting the R380 is much better as all the pipes are standard and don't need adapting.
Also engine sits in different place for each box so will be a pain to change after.

No connection to seller but there is a an R380 Defender box on eBay

My opinion would be buy an R380 for several reasons....

1. Everything will fit with off the shelf pieces.

2. With the LT77 the engine will be too far back or the gearsticks will be too far forward depending on which way you intended to move it.

3. Strictly speaking if you stick to the rules regarding chassis modification etc it could end up on a q plate or have to go for SVA test.

I have done 300tdi conversions onto LT77 gearbox and still prefer everything to look as it should rather than the engine being sat so far back.

Well this is all good advice thanks, and how did i miss that box for sale was only looking tonight:confused:
