chasis corrosion

well after removing an otherwise sound boot floor to enable me to weld up the side panels

, i then discovered

D, sorry couldnt help it) that I have some large holes in my chasis.
the question is this, as the rest of the body shell is gorganzola, and the sills are fecked, plus the holes in the rear x member, should these chasis holes be the final straw, and be time for me to break the old girl?

and if i do, what to replace it with, are there ANY tidy disco 1's about anymore? or is it time to bite the bullet and go for a fender?

Only you can decide whether it's worth carrying on with.. do bear in mind though, that Discoverys are as cheap as they'll ever be at present and finding a replacement won't be too much of a problem- and it won't cost you much either.

I have an early 3dr 200tdi, bought two months ago for under £500. No rust, no holes and straight through its MoT- they are out there!

I've got a jap import that spent the first ten years of its life not rusting

I took the carpets out the other day after getting them wet in flood water and found the first problem area in the drivers footwell. The rest really is good though. My next door neighbours got a jap import as well, and it looks pristine underneath, and nothing's ever been welded on that one

so hopefully that answers your questions as to whether it's possible to get one that doesn't need to be moved with a dustpan and brush

my disco one needs a lot of welding on the floor...
you got to realisticly work out what its going to cost to repair.... including the value of yer own time, what facilities youve got to do the work, add on the scrap value and look round to see what you can buy at that figure.

its winter, i ve got better things to do with me time than laying under a disco in the freezing wind and rain with a welder...

first scrap man i spoke to offered 300, with the odd ball joints and other stuff that needs doing mot will be 500 if i do the welding meself , double that if the garage do it

begining to look like a no brainer.

It doesn't need to be a Japanese import to be rust free, I know of one UK model that is.

Just keep away from floods, fords and farm tracks, so that means just don't stray off the tarmac.

i've got a 300tdi that i've been working on and almost came to the end of my tether with with it this morning, as the more you grind off the worst it becomes...
it owes me around £600, and the panels i need come in at around £200...
the only positive is that its all been welded at the front end and under the bonnet, so on that basis i've decided to do mine but it won't be touched again 'til christmas week...
