Right People!

[ I have a Hawkeye if that is going to be any help ]

Disco 2 has sunk at the back.
Both height sensors are attached and look OK.

RIGHT airbag is fully hard.

LEFT airbag is fully deflated

It looks as if the system is making no effort to pump the left airbag back up.

Hawkeye has a heading Air Suspension but when I go to that it just says

WARNING!
Product Number Unknown 4460440310

any ideas what that is about?

So what's wrong and what's the best fix?

I would like to stay on air suspension if possible.

OK boys .... update ....

I took off the rear left spring, easy job.
I cleaned it and inflated it, and it is not leaking.

So ... the LEFT airbag is not inflating, but the right one seems to.

What's the problem all you Disco-2 Air Spring Experts, and what's the fix?

Update 2

I took the airbag off and checked it was OK, and it was.

I took the plug off the height sensor, skooshed switch-cleaner into the plug, put it back, opened the cover of the compressor, waggled all the plugs, and started the engine.

All of a sudden the air bag inflated!

But the ride height setting is lost - last job is to re-set that.
I wonder if that is possible as DIY ?

Advice please ...

Update 3

It looks like it's fixed.

I parked it on the flat, raised the air suspension to ORM full height "off road mode", and then lowered it.
Lo and Behold, it returned to normal running height!

Tried a few up and down cycles, and it worked fine.

Looks like it has been dodgy connection(s) in the height sensor or cables.

Let's hope that's it for another 85 k miles.

Well boys, the mere fact that we can buy kits like that means the OEM is crap!
Thanks for hunting the bits for me. Are those connecter plugs that fit to the height sensors known for causing trouble? I reckon a pair of those even at rip-off prices might be a sound investment. I would solder the joints and seal them in a tube of silicone mastic. Crimp or screw joints are no good under a chassis.

So ... it's nearly midnight and it has sat full height since 4 o'clock, and that was after a session of ups and downs to see it worked. Therefore I reckon it is OK, BUT ...

............. it is a LandRover !

Ratty, thanks for the Nanocom offer, but it looks like it won't be needed. I have a Hawkeye and that saw faults, then cleared them. I am about to get my Hawkeye upgraded (free) to version 4, and they tell me that version 5 is on the way and does even more.

Battenberg says the air compressor can be "serviced" by cleaning the crap out of it, and doing new brushes. One day soon.

I have 85 k miles on the Disco - do I fit new airbags now just buy a pair now ready for the day?

For sure I will be checking the other side tomorrow - plug off and switch cleaner.

As usual, grateful for all the help and ideas.
 
If u have similar problems again and u are certain about the connectors, springs and compressor, disconnect battery and swap the sensors, in this case each sensor will work on the unused side of it which might improve things.

Like most Sealed Automotive Connectors, they're not totally impervious to water penetration, especially if they're submersed.

According to the Tyco Product Specification for Sealed MQS Connectors, they're compliant with 'IP X9K', which is -

IP X9K TEST:

Fully loaded and mated connectors are subjected to the cumulative action of high pressure water-jet by 4 nozzles, 30 seconds each nozzle -

But of course, this is for a New Connector, several years of living under a Land Rover will have had a detrimental effect on this performance.

Not to mention 7 years of being blasted with salty water in Scottish winters!

It is staying up, and working as it should.

I am very relieved about that!

However, I think I shall envest in two new pluggies.

As u know a ride hight sensor is the same for O/s and N/s... it has a kind of symmetrical "core" working on the hall efect principle on one half (0 - 180 degrees... not the whole range of course) on one side of the car....when u put a sensor from right to left the sensor will be like in mirror and will get inputs and generate outputs from the other half of it(180 - 360/0 degrees... which untill then was unused) .......i hope u understand, that's the best i can do with my poor english, sorry:eek:

Sierrafery, your English is fine :)

I was puzzled by this because, I thought that regardless of which side of the vehicle the Ride Height Sensor was fitted, the lever moved through the same Arc.

But having now looked at the Sensors on my car, I can see exactly what you mean - Good Thinking :clap2:
