Charged to use my 90 Pickup at the Tip !!!

The tip nearest to me (ilkeston - 5 minute drive) lets in pretty much anything. When I built an extension on my house I was going in two/three times a week in a loaded disco with a 6x4 trailer and chucking plasterboard, timber, bricks, tiles, upvc windows and a door and they didn't bat an eyelid, now I use the work van and same story, they even have a container for bagged asbestos and one for tyres (I often take tyres out and keep them)
The next tip along (Kimberley, notts) won't allow any type of van/trailer/pickup or my old discovery without a permit. Although as stated, the permits are free and it's all to stop traders. However, for somebody who's making a one-off trip and has loaded their van/trailer full of s***, to be told to go home and not come back until they've got a permit, it's a bit of an inconvenience, as I found when I used my disco to move some rubbish for my mum. Once again, it's easy to see why a minority might just decide to dispose of it at night (filthy disgusting b£&@/)(€!)

Or the roads portion of any of my tax because in west oxfordshire they don't spend it on the roads!! Or what happens to my bins when I am on the Oil rigs for 6 months of the year and my house is empty ????????

So you can frieght yer pick up with anything you like as long as hasnt got a canopy? Surely you can get more on without the canopy? Driving along to the tip loosing your load. Sounds like the joined up thinking we expect from local government.

I'd have thought a v8 disco is an environmental benefit compared to a filthy nox spewing 90 :behindsofa:

I think it varies from place to place depending on the availability of landfill. Round here is almost no landfill left, so the council are ****ting themselves.

Only if they tip it on public roads or council owned land. else it's the landowners responsibilty to clear it up.

Our local tip lets the Disco in no problem.
As my traler is over 6ft long it has to have a permit linking it to my vehicle reg, permit lasts one year and is free but if you read the small print it excludes certain rubbish.
I am now quite good at cutting things up and hiding them in the wheelie bin

I've just had a quick look at the Norfolk web site and there appears to be no limit as per the type of vehicle.
However there is a limit on the amounts you can deposit for instance one 80litre sack of DIY waste per week.
If you wish to dump more then there is a flat rate charge. Of £30 for a car. £34 for a 4X4, Up to £68 for a transit. Trailers also are charged as per their number of axles.
None of the above helps the fact its at least a 20 mile round trip to the nearest dump.

We can take a small trailer in, but we have a council waste permit sticker as we are resident within our borough ...

I live just down the road from my local tip, yet there's loads of fly tipping that occurs on the small lanes within 2 miles of the tip, makes the place look s£&it. We've never been questioned when driving either the 110 hard top or 90csw, even though the both taxed as goods vehicles. My uncle tried to dispose of a sofa in his small van, they would let him unless he had proof of local residence.

OOoooooh a Lift !!! They are banned at my tip so in answer.... You dont !!!

But I have just applied for my 12 visit annual permit to avoid any issue when i go back home. I will be doing shed loads of building works in the next few months and will register the trailer also so I can do some big loads of plasterboard and slabs etc later in the spring! Seems to be a bone of contention though !

If you want to get rid of hardcore put it on freecycle - works well round here. Also for old doors and windows, lots of other second hand builders stuff.

I've turned up before in a transit pickup we borrowed from my Dad's work. If it's normal domestic waste then the vehicle used to get it there shouldn't be an issue. In any case, they can't charge you unless it's commercial. Some places have a height barrier, but at the one in Coventry all you need to do is call in advance if you're in an over-height vehicle.

Jobsworths who think they run the place are probably half the reason people flytip.

It is all about the vehicle used at our tip. If you have a trailer licenced for domestic waste and you tow it with a Transit, you cant even enter the site! Even if the Transit has a licence for its own waste at another address !! Pull it with a Shogun and you're in! Ridiculous! Pull it with my 90 Pickup with dog cover on and its a no go again !

Our dump lets anything in, no height barriers, my 110 IS a commercial, no problem at all, same with the old disco 3 commercial. You get business vans there all the time, i'm sure some are dumping business waste:/

Not tried taking the trailer in yet... but... it is 4m long!

bugger reading this they want the vehicle reg,so its either the transit or 110,transits going to get it as it can carry more weight
Tipping permits

If you are taking waste to a Household Recycling Centre in Bridgend County Borough using a van or trailer then you will need to register your vehicle before your visit. This is required in order to control the deposit of non- household waste. Please note vans and trailers are not permitted access to the Brynmenyn site.

The types of vehicles that require prior registration are:

Van up to transit size
Trailers between 5ft and 6ft 6in (1.5m to 2m) in length
4x4 SUV pick-ups (open or closed back)
Larger vehicles or trailers are not permitted to use the Household Recycling Centres. If you are using a car or a trailer under 5ft in length then you DO NOT need to register your vehicle prior to your visit.

To register your van or trailer:

Please contact the council by telephoning 01656 643426 48 working hours before you wish to visit one of the Centres. You will need to give the following details

Name and address
List of items that you are taking
Date and nominated centre that you wish to use
Registration number
