The lane is open so should be driven. I will be taking my chance to drive this lane next week :D

it WILL be permanently TRO'd regardless of whether people drive it or not. along with quite a few more famous lanes in the peaks.

what like this with a big fcuk off cheesy grin stating what BB said

if anyone does damage to the lanes its the bikes been around derbyshire today and some bikes went past at some speed one of the flicking a stone up and cracking my wind screen they need to be baned not us who do 5 mph they was doing 50 plus

At least quote what I actually said BB

I wasn't quoting you, I was saying what your post looks like to anyone that reads it.

This thread has been viewed more than a thousand times by fook knows who. To say the lane will close anyway so I'm gonna drive it will come out in some folks heads as might as well drive no matter what the conditions or damage.....what is there to lose?

I'm sure I could have worded it better but what I'm saying more than anything is please be careful of what you post, especially on a public part of the forum about a lane that is in a very precarious situation.

Idiots damage lanes. The truth is one idiot in a 4x4 does the damage of 10 idiots on bikes....or a 100 idiot walkers.

IMO PaulD was right when you posted this on another thread, that it's stupid to try and put the blame elsewhere. From a tactical point of view for us it's suicidal to blame bikes.

We need to work together and get our own houses in order

One irresponsible biker and you say say they all need to be banned.....

Punish the majority due to the actions of the few. Great, and those that were breaking the law will obey any TRO?

Think about what you are saying, an irresponsible 4x4 driver goes off piste and then someone says....

Im with you Paul, im in 2 minds about it.

The only thing thats making me err on the side of dont drive it, is that the TRF made a statement about "working on a plan" for motorised access.

From what i have read and seen, the TRF are a whole lot more active/ better funded than GLASS and Treadlightly. They actually seem to get results and get things done.

Just a thought mind.

Trf and TL are locked in a legal battle on our behalf and put out a sincere request.

To ignore that cause you know better is both arragant and ignorant.....IMO

Worth noting the clear statement that the TRF are fighting for bikes and 4x4's to be treated seperatly.

They're not fighting "for us" they are fighting for their own rights and if that means we get f**ked over they're fine with it.

Gotta agree with a few posts above though, bikes need speed limiting, they have really aggressive tyres and do a lot of damage at high speeds and quick acceleration away.

We did note, when on the lane, that there were a couple of motorbike tyre tracks .. but a shed-load more and deeper mountain bike tracks! Most tracks, however, weren't causing damage at all, they were just tracks in the sandy areas!

Truth be told we all cause some damage, 4x4's anorl, and there are ****wits amongst 4x4 drivers as well as motorcycle riders ... I just suggest we stop being so divisive and fight together against the wan, sorry walkers, who really want to stop us all completely. In my experience it's actually tractors and their trailers or additional farm/logging machinery that cause most damage to tracks, but they need to use them in ways that we don't.

To constantly harp on about whether one group or another causes more or less damage seems to me to be hypocritical .. if 4x4's caused NO damage we wouldn't be in this situaton, or we might be able to reasonably moan at others .. NOT saying any individuals cause damage, just some 4x4 users ... same as it's only some bike riders, or walkers ...

Mind, I also think that most walkers simply don't want to share space with any vehicles on any lanes, totally selfish and insular, and that's the real problem, not which vehicle causes most damage ... which is an argument that can, has and probably always will, go round in circles tieing us up in petty argument between motorised vehicle owners rather than actually and actively working together and fighting our corner with bobbles and ROWO's etc.

We used to have a caravan on Windermere up until 2005 when the lake was speed limited, which meant no boating.

There was a huge waterski following on Windermere, the ONLY lake left in the Lake District which was on the whole part unrestricted.

Every motor boat paid licence fees, most paid launch fees, a lot of boat owners bought equipment, fuel, beer, etc etc.

Basically there were thousands of people who migrated to the various sites around the lake every weekend and spent their money there in one way or another.

BUT the bobblies decided that it was too noisy around the lake to enjoy the peace and quiet. There was a load of other **** that got made up about shore erosion and pollution etc, but i'll tell you, i was there for 14 years drinking that lake water most saturdays and sundays (hard not to when waterskiing) and im just fine.

Basically a bobblie decided to kick up a fuss and once the environmental ball was rolling it was unstoppable.

The major difference with Windermere was that us fuel burning, beer drinking, restaurant filling, boatyard paying, economy producing people spent lots of money up there whereas the walkers turn up, walk about, eat their own sandwiches and then go home.

The place is a ghost town now, yet farcically you can actually still ski on the lake cos there isnt enough money to pay the wardens to stop you most of the time.

SURELY the LDNPA saw this coming, but being environmentalists didnt really care about the billions in revenue and thousands of jobs lost.

What was MOST ANNOYING for anyone who was anti-ban was that there are 16 lakes and many smaller tarns in the LDNP and yet it still was not enough, the bobblies must be able to walk around windermere in silence also.

They won, and they ****ed it for most people.
