If you source a good 2.25l petrol engine it’s got potential to last a long time. If the head is refurbished and the bottom is sound it’ll last indefinitely with regular maintenance. It’s a low emission engine which when well set up is really smooth and reliable. The 2.25l landy engine is an unsung classic.

Cheers BB sorry for the slow response. LR have developed some really good Diesel engines in recent years but it’s all been caught up with emissions stuff and diesel has had a bad press generally. I’m not lording petrol as such cos there’s masses of passionate owners with Diesel engines. I’m just saying that the petrol engine is a versatile engine from the 1950’s.
It’s not unique either; the Rolls Royce B series are astonishing engines; 50,000 miles without a service!!
