Fot everything back together and bked it again with the easybleed.

I can drive it but its not pretty and i cant get reverse unless i turn the engine off.

Looks like ill be orfering a mastet cylinder.

Did the clutch mechanism work ok before you installed the new clutch?

The master shouldnt fail just because you changed the clutch.

Did you have ago at those tests I suggested?

Just hate seeing bits changed unnecessarily!

ive had the car just over a year and was told the clutch had been changed which turned out to be true as it was hardly worn when i removed it. What they didnt change was the release bearing and it was getting louder, obviously going to do the whole lot while im there.

Thinking back, the gears were getting harder to change and the fluid was blackish.

I changed the slave because it was leaking after my mate pressed the pedal and it popped apart.

I dont like changing parts but there isnt anything else it can be,i think i tiny bit of air is getting in and its not releasing properly.

Yes black fluid is not good!

When you put the new clutch in did you check/change the spigot bearing? As well as the release bearing, it seems normal practice to change the spigot bearing as well, if it was tight it would make a noise when the pedal is depressed and in theory cause some drag.

I thought my master was toast until I did the bleed procedure I described earlier.

Kit didnt come with a bush so i didnt change it.

Ive tried every way to bleed it. Thinking an internal seal on the master seeing as i had black fluid.

Just a thought I had black in mine before I changed them I noticed that the slave cylinder was right above the exhaust with no shield between them and ive read something mentioned about one. Does anyone know of one fitted ?.

I thought the same thing when I read the LR manual, but the shield is on the V8 not the TD5

The master was leaking, changed it and its better than it was but its still not right.

Blimey this must be doing your head in!
Were you happy it had the right oil in the box? I found the best place to buy MTF94 from, was a main stealer! 5 litres for £45

If you have tried everything I did, theres not much more I can suggest.

Was the release arm ok? My D2 has the cast one so its not an issue, D1,s can wear badly hence the change for later models.

Final suggestion, after giving the clutch another "hard" bleed, would be drop the box out and check the plates not bent.

Shame Im not nearer to you, I enjoy solving mystery problems, but Im 1800 km away!

My D2 is grounded at the min, cracked head! When Im back ive got to strip it all down to get the head welded, then big ends, poss a con rod or two!

When thats all done, it goes back to the people who installed my new gear/transfer boxes and clutch (for the 3rd time!), so they can sort out bad selection and oil leaks! So I know how frustrating it is!
