hi guys

Got a TD5 - weirdly the fob has stopped locking the vehicle. it lights up on the fob and on the dash (indicator light flashes when unlock and the fast blink red lights when i lock) but the doors dont lock. I can unlock with the keyfob.

The lock/unlock doors button on the dash does nothing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

May sound silly,

Is it running OK apart from this? How are you locking the car? with the Key?
but have you tried resetting the inertia switch in the engine bay? I would have thought it would stop you starting and locking using the key, but heyho, anything is worth a try.

Otherwise, have to wonder if your BCU has got a little wet.

If it were just the lock/unlock switch on the dashboard I would have said check the earth to the switch. However considering your other symptoms I would suggest that the BCU might be in trouble.
You say that you can unlock with the fob it would suggest that the RF side of things is OK. Yes, the inertia switch under the bonnet is part of the circuit so it's worth a try, but it does look like a BCU problem.
 
When you unlock with the key do all the doors unlock or just the driver's? and just confirm, you can see normal activity of the red LED either on lock/unlock command with the fob just the door locks are all dead? .... untill you answer check fuse F1 in the under-dash fusebox and fusible link FL3 in engine bay

well its a TD5 so I wouldnt say its running perfectly ever! :) thats aid there arent any major issues that I know about. what is the inertia switch? do you mean pressing it will stop the fob working? i have just noticed that although the indicator/hazards have stopped working too - lights up on dash but not outside.

no it only unlocks the drivers side. yes the red led seems normal on the fob. Fuse F1 seems fine - sorry what is fusable link fl3 in engine bay?

I checked the fuses under the bonet and X2 are blown but I am assuming unrelated - F4 (headlight washers) and f5 (cooling fans). Guessing that wouldnt have any impact on the central locking or indicators...
 
I dont like answers like a fuse "seems fine" you must be 100% certain so swap it with a certainly good one, watch inside the engine bay fusbox's lid and it's pointed on it which is fusible link FL3, it's near relay R1, make sure it has continuity and well connected

thanks will do. Turns out as well as the indicators and central locking, the rear windows also dont go down!
 
Before sierrafery comes back at you, can you confirm that the little red LED on the instrument cluster, not the one on the fob works as expected?
Secondly when you say the indicators don't work, is that normal operation using the steering column stalk or when you lock and unlock the vehicle, one flash for open and three for locked? Do they work when you operate the hazard switch? What lights operate?
Just for your information, the inertia switch is mounted on the bulkhead, on the passenger's side under the bonnet.
You mentioned that it only unlocks the driver's door, what happens when you press the fob unlock button twice?

hi thanks for helping.

the instrument cluster works as i think it should - when i press the unlock button on the fob the indicators both flash on the dash and when i lock it the cluster of red lights blink fast.
i mean the indicators dont work in normal operation - when i inducate the sign shows in the dash but not outside
when i press the fob unlock twice nothing happens , the fob doesnt unlock any door sorry if i confused!

Yep, you are confusing me a bit!
The normal operation, assuming that no alterations have been programmed in the BCU should be:
Press the oval unlock button on the fob once. The drivers door should unlock and the direction indicators flash once. Press the oval button a second time and all the other doors should unlock.
Press the round lock button on the fob and all doors should lock and the indicators should flash three times. During the locking sequence, there should only be the green indicator tell-tales in the instrument cluster flashing in time with the direction indicators and a small red LED at the bottom of the instrument cluster below the speedo and to the left of the odometer which should flash rapidly at first and then after ten seconds it should then flash continuously at about once a second. Any other indicator lights in the cluster flashing at the time is wrong.
The direction indicators have a 15 amp fuse, F14 in the engine compartment fuse box. The right and left indicator relays are driven by circuits set up in the BCU. The dashboard tell-tale lights are also driven from the BCU, rather than just being connected to to the actual indicator wiring.
As sierrafery has already suggested, check your fuses carefully, either with a multimeter or by substitution.
