Caring for your Freelander 1 - let's write it :D

Luckily oil leaking is something mine doesn't seem to suffer from - yet. Though I still don't know whether the upgraded oil rail was fitted with the new HG. Probably best to start working on a totally new engine as soon as all the other gremlins have been splatted :smash:.

mine doesn't have the new rail either, £60 was too much on top of all the other parts when i did the hgf.

20k later and all is well (touch wood)

Forgive me for suggesting the obvious but wouldn't it be easier / less work to generate a sticky post in the root of the sub forum containing links to 'useful' threads?
As mentioned, a lot of people have spent a lot of time responding / posting in detail regarding some of the common faults and questions, and I know very well there are already a lot of these 'common faults and questions' threads already there (I myself have done so much work based on these threads without anyone ever knowing!), but as also previously mentioned, they are not necessarily easy to find for newcomers.

If a contents style post that was sticky'd remained in the root of the sub forum, under each heading the thread owner could edit their original post, adding link to the specific thread?

Seems to me this approach could solve the issue from a lot of angles - i.e. not a huge amount of effort to get it up and running (we have a great 'contents' list to start from in this thread), and there's no doubling of effort re-writing the many extremely useful threads on the forums into another website / document.

The whole community can then very easily contribute to this by simply PM'ing the thread owner with a relevant link associated to a given heading e.g 'I think this thread should be listed for VCU testing'

I understand we will never stop repeat questions from newcomers, but would we REALLY want to do this anyway? Besides if it is a simple question, its a simple answer to reply with a link to the root thread...

Let me know your thoughts!

P.S if possible, locking that thread from replies would keep it very tidy too, assuming you can still edit the post once its locked?

While reading this fred I was thinking the same as Dave landy. We could have a post that lists loads of faults. Each fault/popular question could have links to other freds which supply further info on the fault, how to fix it... This would save loads of work as the info is already on ere. Freds linked too could be cleaned up like the vcu fred at the top of the Freelander section, which contains an argument.

I've still got the Hippo too! For now..

This is an interesting thread. As a newb I do ask a lot of questions. Yes I do use the search facility and often get a lot of near hits. The idea as suggested by WLJayne is pretty good.

Did it move forward? I view the MGRover forum periodically and use the search feature there too. There are two especially useful stickies on the R200/25/MGZR area that I look at a lot - common mods with and parts suppliers.
