Car slugish on startup

Hi everyone,

Everytime I start my car on a morning it is very slugish, and takes a while before the power is there properly on my TD4.
Is there a reason for this?

If it about 5 degrees or less and especially if it's an auto - then it's normal.

The auto box hold low gears in an attempt to warm up a bit quicker.

Lots of autos do this - the answer is just to take it easy for a mile or so and forget about it.

Hi SV,

I think he means on start-up, mine's the same on first start-up it's like the engine is firing on 3 cylinders for a few seconds then it's all fine. It's just those few seconds with mine.
 
My 1.8 is a totalt bag of ****e until it warms up, no power and jerky as hell. But I need to put decent quality plugs in there and also it's time for a new fuel filter. I suspect that will cure my issues ;).

If that's the case - then it likely to be either faulty glow plug/s or not waiting for the glow-plug light to go out - ie turning the key too quickly.

Easy to forget.

That's what I do is wait for the glow plug light to go out. I'll try and clean the plug. Is it the one on the end of the fuel rail ???.

Try cleaning the fuel rail pressure sensor plug and contacts as suggested before you go spending any money on glow plugs. All you need to use is electricle contact cleaner, comes in a spray can from Halfords.
 
Well tried cleaning the sensor plug and contacts also cleaned the plug and contacts on top of the injectors, but it still starts the same first thing. Looks like it going to be the glow plugs.

Just for a couple of seconds the engine sounds like it's firing on three cylinders then bursts into life and then starts fine all day after the first start.
