Can anyone tell me how capable a standard discovery 2 td5 is off road I have brought some mud tyres and plan on doing afew other bit but I wanted to no if anyone struggles on standard height as I dont want to lift it and would like to do some laning and maybe try some pay and play days also have no diff lock fitted but have the transfer box with it on j have heard the traction control is good on these landys any info is very much appreciated.

Give it a try, I think you'll be surprised just how capable they are without all the fancy additions. :)
Thanks for the reply I can understand why people would lift them for looks and better height off road but that's not for me I may need some steering guards and diff guards as this could be a problem if I hit some rocks:D

Unless you're thinking about serious off-roading, all you really need is a good set of tyres and you're sorted.
I will try them and if I need anything else I can always change afew thing I wouldn't mind a snorkel just incase I do anything to serious and I dont think I would appreciate the engine sucking in any water

No reason you should, the general idea is to steer round damaging obstacles rather then through them.
A standard vehicle is very capable of dealing with anything you will find outside competition driving.
As it appears you are a novice, it would be better to spend the money on driver training rather than modifications.
Google around, there are lots of options, either in your own vehicle or theirs.

I tend to take it slow and not brake anything I just need to gain abit more experience but that will come the more I off road

Just butting In as I do, I owned a nice shiny Black D1 for 10 years until a year or three ago, now ended up with a shiny black hippo, but I follow some "offroad" guys with D2`s in Merica and what does a muse me is there frame of mind for the name / type of vehicle a D2 Is out there, to them Its a go anywhere TRUCK..lol V8 powered, luxury leather, hill descent controlled, auto, airconned truck..
bless..

Is there any adjustment on the discovery 2 towbar as mine seems to be lower than every other discovery towbar would you recommend removing it @Turboman

If you get yourself a Dixon-Bate you will be able to adjust it greatly, that is what I use and in France, where you can get "done" if some twa t runs into the back of you and your tow-ball is fitted ("unneccessary damage done to vehicle":rolleyes:) you can simply remove it. Good idea anyway as certain scumbags will pinch them if you are not careful.
I use it cos my Discos have different ride heights and with a twin axle trailer I feel it is important to get the towbar height right.

I would like to try both
Quite extensive sections on the forum about both, with contributions from people who are experienced in one or both areas.

Unless you are planning to try very extreme stuff, probably removing the drop plate will do for the time being.
The towbar frame will actually plough through soft mud at low speeds without sustaining any damage.

I was just abit curious if it would hold me back if I got into a bad scenario

The bottom of the frame seems to be low on mine I have an adjustable tow ball I can higher and lower it but the frame stays at the same height

My D2 had that as well, You should be able to unbolt the entire plate from the back of the stabiliser bars.
But I would leave it for the time being, it shouldn't be a problem for most lanes, certainly.

Ok I will leave it unless I get a problem I was just going to remove it but if u think it will be ok then it should be fine
