Can't select reverse

Hi all. I have an LT77 gearbox. It's an Ashcroft box that's done around 100 miles or so since being installed. Selecting reverse took several attempts and now can't be selected at all. It just won't go left far enough. I've done a search and found it might be the plunger. Is this the plunger in the photo below just to the right of the turret?

Here's a close up of what I think it is. It looks pretty new, so I suspect it came with the new box. Should I get a spanner and try to unbolt, or use a screwdriver to try and adjust?

What should I do if these tactics fail? Many thanks for any replies.

thats the fellow, may just need adjusting, mine had the same problem and i cured it by taking the plunger apart, greasing it and refitting it after ajusting it

that is reverse plunger ,it stops lever going into reverse instead of firstr unless pushed against the plunger ,un bolt it and see if it goes across enough for reverse then ,it has shims that can be placed between it and housing to correctly position it for 1st gear ,and spring pressure adjusted by the screw ,often need stripping and regreasing

Thanks for the fast reply chaps. I'll unbolt it once the snow stops. If that doesn't work, do you think the selector may be at fault? Thanks

there are other things like a loose grub screw under the turret, but after that nothing you can get at with box in the vehicle

Just an idea but might be worth checking the reverse light switch is not screwed in to far, maybe it's loose?

Thanks for your replies. The box is under warranty, but unfortunately the garage I had the work done at isn't local, so I was looking for a solution that would cost less than the diesel required to drive out there.

I managed to get the tunnel off and took out the plunger casing.

Quick dismantle and clean up.

Then reassemble with plenty of thick grease inside and bolted back onto the gearbox. Now I can select reverse with just enough feel to make sure I don't get reverse and first mixed up. Thanks for all your help.

Great post, thanks.
I've got the same problem at the moment, spent the last couple of days looking into the top of the gearbox, fiddling, I'll give this a go.
