Wudnt it be a lot easier to just get a transport firm with a seven tonne truck to move the rangerover ? would sooner add up pound notes than all these kilo,s ,plus they would be properly insured for transporting it and it would be a lot safer !

That's not a problem then. It's annoying that you can't tow on a new license. I want a trailer but I will have to do another test. They should add it to the normal test, it's always useful to have.

From the dvla:

The car and trailer practical driving test
The car and trailer test (B+E) is based on the lorry driving test and lasts for approximately one hour. Please note that B+E tests are conducted at vocational (bus and lorry) driving test centres.
The towing test (B+E) includes:
vehicle safety questions
an off-road reverse manoeuvre
a controlled stop
uncoupling and coupling of the trailer and driving on the road
From 4 October 2010, your practical driving test will include approximately ten minutes of independent driving. This is designed to test your ability to drive unsupervised, and make safe decisions without guidance.

The test involves reversing an S shaped course and into a garage; unhitching and hitching; then normal driving like your driving test.

This isn't going to be a one off so looking at the best way to do things, did look at transporters myself but transits can only carr 1.5 ton and dont have the room or money for a bigger truck that will not get used very often.

One small point. If you haven't done much towing before, give it a try somewhere quiet first. It can be a bit scary to say the least towing a 3500kg load with a 2000kg vehicle if your not used to it.
You tend to get a slight feeling that you are not quite in control.
I do think that getting some professional instruction for towing isn't really a bad idea. I know the towing test these days is a pain but to get a driving license and be able to start dragging heavy trailers around without any instruction is asking for trouble.
