Hi.

I have a TD4 and my wife has a habit of pulling the handbrake up all the way. I don't like this but my fear is an old fashioned 'it'll stretch the wire' that I had drummed in to me as a kid.
Am I right in thinking that it isn't 'wire' these days so no harm in pulling the handbrake up all the way to max?

If it's got a traditional HB lever, then it's got cables, as pulling the lever pulls the cables, and makes the brakes work.

There's no need to pull the HB lever more than is needed to stop the vehicle rolling away.

It must be a woman thing, as my wife does the same thing, and leaves the bloody box in gear, which I find really annoying.

I drove my old Avensis the other week which I had sold to my sis-in-law and she must have been yarking on the handbrake like She-Hulk in a strop. That reminds me I need to adjust the thing, but she'll probably just do it again!
