well, an update...
oil leak - badly fitted oil filter by guy i bought it from who rushed a service. nice relief that.
"slow" (yes, even for a disco!) - unplugged MAF, WOW!! Way better. Bought new genuine meter and fitted that, not tested yet but that's solved one issue. It's still 'gutless' below 2k revs and not great above that either, but it's not TOTALLY gutless now (it was before). Landy guy i know (30 years working on them) drove it the other day (i wanted his opinion of its performance) and he said "somethin wrong here". said it was slowest he had ever driven and obviously something wrong. So the maf is sorted. I am now moving to service, checks, and all basic improvements i can make on the cheap, then underseal it (
naked now), and then IF i have the money i MAY consider trying out a variable vein turbo. APparently they make a world of difference at low revs, which is where I like to drive. I doubt i can afford it but if i do, i will pass comment
