Please advise what type/size socket I need to remove P38 (2000) brake calliper bolts.

12mm for caliper to carrier.
15 or 17mm can't remember which Bi hex for the carrier to hub

My reason for asking is that I have to remove the calliper from the hub and the bolt heads are not hex but look a bit like external Torx. What's wrong with hex head bolts?

They're Bi hex or 12point the ring end of a spanner works alright if you have no bi hex sockets, put a spanner on, plus a swift whack with a mallet gets them loose, usually.

when they're not rusty they give more grip...but if they are rusty then they're a PITA

12 point. Bihex. You need the right socket or you will knacker it. They'll be tight and may require some heat to shift.

Job done. They were actually 19mm and required a lever extension to free.
I am trying to replace the steering swivels so need the hub out of the way. I know how tough these things can be to get out so please wish me luck.

I did a How To in the Technical Section on how to do the CV boot which covers hub removal. Lots of PlusGas, back off the bolts a little and hammer a lot.

300tdi flywheel bolts are a perfect replacement for these bolts and a strong grade.

An electric heat gun can also help.
