Plan tonight tis to collect a gearbox from Sible will split it and take the bell housing off check serial numbers. Hopefully Ashcroft will eaxhange it for your one. Will have to have a look see make sure the are the same tho.

Quick update, fitted the box and transfer box yesterday, refilled the tank with the bit of diesel that I had, fluids etc and it drove like a dream. I am so chuffed smiles all round.
The piccies don't show everything, too busy working.
Filled up with diesel today and almost as quick as it went in it came back out, had managed to break the seal on the sender unit in the main tank, so tank back out again to reseal everything. All good now and expecting to head once more into Thailand tomorrow.
One thing I've managed to prove is that this kind of job can be done with a basic toolkit and no lifting gear, think I'm definately qualified as a true bush mechanic.

OK I have the gearbox from Sibble its a 50A series box. Spitfiremk1uk is making the epic 5 minute journey to ashcroft to pick his shiny new transfer box for his series. he will ask if they will exchange it although I suspect its a no go! worth a try tho.

Why are Ashcrofts so insistant on it being exactly the same GB??
cos some casting are easy to get hold of, others not so - apparently

Their explanation was that some boxes are stronger than others, so don't want to exchange a weak one for a stronger one, although saying that they didn't say which mine was.

Cheers Jason, the car is now running like a dream and we've now made it to Bangkok, what a place to drive round.
