All this sort of thing really puts me off doing any lanes! I hate confrontation, and it always seems like you have to be on the defensive and potentially get into arguments etc, I go because I LOVE history, and I like to think back to the old days and imagine who was traveling the same road before me, BUT I am getting put off

I tend to avoid confrontation and have rarely had any issues. I have been shouted at a few times but have always left on good terms with a handshake.
Being a farmers son with a noticeable burr in my accent may help
There is a lane my way which is legal to drive, gated but not locked after council threats but made intentionally difficult to access and will likely get you a stream of abuse.
I tend to avoid it simply because it's not my idea of fun and wouldn't lead a group that way.
If it was under threat of closure because of lack of use I might begin to think differently.
I think there is a big difference between driving well used lanes and exploring ones which you nothing about. We have never had any issues laning (except the woman at Stile End LOL) but I can see how things could go wrong with lanes which have no history on trailwise.

Although I find it somewhat farcical that you seem to think that just because the lane isn't on trailwise its ok for folks to be blocking a perfectly legal right of way.
To be quite honest I'm new to the greenlaning side of things, and more than anything I wanted to make sure I was 100% in the right with my course of actions, which I have been.

I don't think Sue implied blocking a ROW was OK but quite rightly pointed out you are more likely to find confrontation if you stray away from known and regularly driven routes.
I really don't care, she got the hump for some unknown reason so I was attempting to argue my corner.
If no one ever drove less known tracks, they will become utterly disused and forgotten, then taken away from.us. Whilst EVERYONE uses the well known routes, and then over uses becomes a problem. I'm not stupid, I can see point, but equally I'm allowed to make mine.

You said you hated confrontation and were given examples of how to avoid it.
When I'm exploring I'm courteous to a fault and when approached find it often helps to ask for help and advice about condition and precise location etc. It gives the chance to get across I'm responsible, know my way round the legalities and aren't a dick before anyone anyone starts shouting
