Buying defender price advice

I'm currently in the process of trying to buy my first land rover, specifically a defender 90.
I've seen one advertised privately locally but my gut feel is that its overpriced. (4k) I was hoping someone could give a very rough guide on what price range its really worth.

I've only got basic details,
Defender 90
Green
R reg (1998)
Snorkel
Off-road tyres
250k miles

For this exercise will assume chassis and bulk heads are not rotten and some kind of service history.

Your help will be much appreciated.

Well thats not much of a description but on what youve said and that very high mileage i would say thats overpriced around 2.5-3k would be my guess, have you looked at the for sale section on here theres always a few for sale

I've looked in the forsale section but nothing is local. I don't want to travel far to get one, I got fed up with viewing long distance ones that weren't as the seller described. Waste of time and money.

Yep you're right, at least the ones I viewed were a good exercise on things to look out for.

I just managed to speak to the seller and...... I won't be buying it as way overpriced.

It had a new engine, but no idea on the miles as it was sitting around in a yard before fitted. Ummed when I asked about regular services and only mentioned the last service.

Also had refitted transfer box, drive/prop shaft, axles and discs.

The search continues....

Well good luck and dont be too hasty, and if you can take someone along that knows what to look for as there are many dodgy ones around and they will say anything to get a sale so beware lol
