buying a disco 3

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a Disco 1 Off-road prep'd . But Use it for towing the family caravan, off-road, school run, daily driver, family holidays or long distance and trips to the dump. So really as intended. but really want something newer and nicer fir the family to travel in and the wife to drive from time to time and I LOVE my Disco 1. So I have been looking at disco 3's for some time now as well as getting cold feet and looking at late disco 2's. But as mentioned previously, Disco3.co.uk is very good and has put most of my concerns to bed regarding my main fear, that I wouldn't be able to repair myself as I do now. Plus all the talk of unreliability was the same levied at the disco 2 when it was newer. So times change. technology changes. but I believe the Disco 3 is just at the right age for me to consider ownership and I'm fully prepared to carry out maintenance as I do to 18year old disco just now.

oh there is a mobile guy for fixing disco 3 's who is
always on Disco3 forum and seems really good at fixing disco 3's and runs one himself, cant mind the name off hand, but join the forum and search around

Think I'm probably in the same frame of mind as you. I've run my Disco 1 for a few years and will probably never sell. Now that Disco 3 and 4 are getting a bit more affordable to buy, it seems like there are more indys that are getting to grips with them so they are not do intimidating as a 2nd hand purchase.

I also have a 2004 Td5 Landmark which is still a classy vehicle. 130000 miles. Ive owned it 8+ years now and really do love it although the thought of something more modern does creep up now and again. It doesnt have a cambelt to change (chain driven cam). Apart from clutch and flywheel replacement and 2 warped exhaust manifolds ( convinced the 1st wasnt fitted correctly) its been fairly reliable. I have managed to do all the servicing and maintenace apart from the above. Im just wary that a D3 would be less DIY friendly?
