nothing pervy i'm afraid, I mean the wires to protect the windscreen.

my question: are they legal in the UK?
would they be acceptable if they were made of 25mm sq section steel?

on the Disco, I have them welded to angle brackets bolted using the front screw on the wing, and a bar clamped to the roof rack.
I've made the whole assembly modular so it's quickly and easily fitted/removed. but would it affect an MOT? and if used on the road am i likely to get pulled by the cops?
 
Errm... yes quite possibly... if you hit a pedestrian you're going to slice them into several pieces... I would make them removable for normal road use and only put them on for laning / off-roading
 
My worry is that i live 20miles from my land, and the access lane necessitates their use.

Hmm, maybe i should downgrade to flexible wires which can be tied up on the rack.
 
their use on the road is illegal. if you had a savvy plod see you, it will be a tug.

it's to do with pedestrians being pushed aside if the come into contact with your vehicle. with bush wires or similar fitted, they can become entangled and suffer further injury.

make them easy to fix/remove and only fit them for laning etc.

As Lanes are public highways. they are illegal then anorl. Not to mention the faff of undoing/refitting em at the end and start of every lane.

Best thing to do. Is throw em in the garage/shed and forget about em unti ya need a bit of cable for summat..
 
I'm skeptical. Without seeing a picture, Id bet that its not illegal unless it falls foul of some construction and use law, or some EU safety based legislation. They have banned homemade bull bars after all, on account of public safety, but only after a certain date of vehicle.

I'm sure it would fail an mot though. I was told by the mot guy last year that a sucky plunger phone holder on the windscreen would fail an mot. Its not illegal to use on the road, only an mot fail on mot day.

The old bill riot vans have a huge grill that comes down over the windscreen. I'd like to know what the difference is between that and your wires.

It's an offence to affix any item to your vehicle, that can cause harm to another person.

plod riot vans only have the grill down when moving at about 1mile an hr.

But are not green lanes legal roads?
 
Your all right to a degree. :D

they ARE illegal, i dont have it to hand( and its 4:30 in the morning so im not looking now) but there is legislation to support the fact. Its not made up, they are illegal on roads.

Greenlanes are highways so again, there illegal for use there too. You could use them on your own land or at a p&p site.

Ultimately, people have them attached to there motor and drive around all the time with them on, people also drive greenlanes with them on.

You pays your money you takes your chances.

I personally don't take the chance(i also dont think you need them in the UK)

Anything bigger than an inch or 2 thick is going to put a lot of force on the wire anyway and pull on the anchor points and damage your motor! exactly why you tried to avoid by fitting them! :doh: and anything less than an inch or so should pass over head without any bother.
 
I have them fitted permanently, they are quick release for if I do get pulled.

If I hit someone with my 90 they will be going underneath it, not above to become "entangled" in the wires :rolleyes:
 
I think you're OK if they were a factory fit, as in a Camel Trophy Spec, other than that illegal on UK roads including Byways.

It's a private lane, only my access.
No other right of way except for one other field, and the farmer uses another field of his to get to it.
As I dont want pikeys snooping around smashing their way into things and lifting stuff, i see no reason to make the lane more accessible than it is.
For the last 10 years while i've been away, it was my dad's land and he never drove there, so a fallen tree has been blocking the lane for about that long.
Now he's 6 foot under, it's up to me and my mother to decide what to do with it.
My vote is a pay'n'play.

on a side note, i just googled 'bushwires' on the "images" side and your motor appears on the 3rd row down.

With no bushwires on. how odd :confused::)

not true, would only fail if it was within the swept area of the windscreen wipers.
