Broken gearbox.

My Landy is poorly

. Strongly suspect gearbox is Fubar. Tried to drive it this morning, and found I had no reverse gear. Shifted into neutral, released clutch, and Landy shoots backwards

. Neutral is now reverse, no neutral at all, and when selecting forward gears, gears feel like they have selected, but when I release the clutch, the vehicle doesn't move, just stalls no matter how much power I use or whether in hi box or low. I know it is not the handbrake, as the vehicle can be pushed with the clutch depressed.

Agree with you, but now your clutch and prolly the engine and lots else is now FUBAR

Engine and everything else is fine, drives perfectly in reverse, just that reverse isn't where it is supposed to be. Have sourced a box for £150, so will be fitting it over the weekend instead of fishing.

have you looked at grub screw in yoke

Wish it was that simple, unfortunately it doesn't seem that way, grub screw all done up ok, it seems as though the selector forks are jammed solid. So it seems a strip down and rebuild is required. In the meantime I have another box to go in while I rebuild the broken one.

i think i would look under gear box top if rev is stuck in gear selector pin/interlock may have come out of alignment

After much pushing, shoving & swearing, I have finally got it to select the gears, and the gears are all where they should be. The problem is that although the gears are being selected, I have no drive and the gearbox sounds like a coffee grinder full of gravel. My immediate thoughts are failed dog gears. Does this sound likely?

dog teeth are on a seperate piece welded to the gear the welds do fail but normally only drive is lost a little noise ,could be a bearing failure it can make selection difficult or still a selector issue and synchro hub partially catching dog teeth, theres 2 wire springs in synchro hub they can come out and jam hubs making it impossible to fully move hub, but either way sounds like it needs to come to bits

I agree with James I had similar symptoms and the grub screw had come loose, 1/2 hour at most to do it and definitely worth checking before swapping the gearbox!

Already checked that. I can now select gears (just) but no drive, just horrible metallic grinding/crunching.

Hi Martin, I lost all gears and luckily the grub screw was my problem which was an easy fix but It sounds like yours is more serious - unfortunately I don't know much about gearboxes but good luck with fixing yours. Hopefully it won't be too much hassle
