The series 3 LWB back axle and prop shaft should just fit. That's a Salisbury.
You can get weld in replacement pans for the diff, but am alternate is to get a weld in pipe end from a commercial steel pipe supplier. Usually cheaper, and made from thicker stuff. They're available in the right size and might be a more locally available option, compared to the UK suppliers.

Through my LR club I have been in touch with a fellow on Vancouver Island who says he has a couple if diffs. Just waiting for him to give me a price.
Turns out my recently purchased P38 also has a diff problem. Noticeable vibration when driving and when we drained the oil 2 bolt heads drop out, the ones holding the ring gear in place, so it might be loose. Going to swap in a diff from an axle I bought as a spare for my offroader. Should be a good car after that. 386k km but runs great and engine is strong. Body and interior very nice. I was planning to sell it after repairs but not sure now.

Here are some photos. A bit more of a problem than the ring gear coming loose <g>.[A

Yep, nothing salvageable there. Next week I will be picking one up from a club member for $250CAD. Took out the diff from my 2nd P38 yesterday and 6 bolt heads were broken off the bolts that hold the ring gear in place. Must have put the gear out of balance and caused the vibration. I will post a photo in the "What did you do with your Land Rover today" section.

Did he have a mechanic help him? Those things are weighty beasts aren't they?

No, he did it himself.
He goes to the gym every second day to work out and was an amateur body builder at one time. At 67 he is quite strong and considers this sort of thing to be a worthy challenge. Note that we are both wee folk at 5.5 feet/1.7 m and less than 135 pounds/61kg.
