Might need to replace the wheel boxes on the Ninety and would like some real world advice on the Britpart cheapy ones.
Going to clean them up and lubricate them first
It's the ridiculous early design.
It's an occasional use vehicle so don't get used that much.
Not really interested in the usual all Britpart stuff is crap comments, unless they are of course!
 
In my experience the main weak point is the way the wheels are attached to the spindles. In many cases they just seem to be staked or peened in, so the wheel can come loose. With the motor running, the wheel is diligently going round but the wiper doesn't work. I bought some new ones a few years ago, and selected ones that were a bit more expensive than Britpart own brand items. Imagine my disappointment when they turned up in Britpart packaging. However, in taking them apart it became clear that the gear was secured to the spindle with a couple of dollops of weld in addition to the staking. Much better. They've been good for the last few years. So whatever you get, if you have a welder to hand it might be a good idea to add a little weld to the join between the gear wheel and the spindle, if this hasn't already been done in the factory.
 
Thanks for the replies. I do have a welder so could blob a bit of weld on if needed.
I'm not convinced about the oem ones on offer as the genuine ones are not much more. Going to clean and lube everything first as the cheapest option and update how I get on.
 
Hi,
I would not fit Britpart wheelboxes as the amount of work to change them only to have to change again within a very short time.
I have changed mine and would use genuine parts every time.
I am a mechanic by trade but that is just my opinion.
I have used a lot of Britpart items in the past and they are poor & don`t last very long.

what are the actual symptoms that you have? I had to replace the motor on mine after the rebuild as the wipers would work on low speed but not on high, i have already fitted new wiper boxes (probably britpart but i can check) and a new (to me) motor solved my issue.

It's on my son's Ninety and he says they run too slow. My thinking was maybe a bit rusty or lack of grease, so cleaned everything and greased it up.
If the screen is dry then yes they are slow, raining and they seem OK to me except the sweep can be a bit erratic.
Think he likes finding things for me to do, either that or he is jealous of my TD5 wipers which work perfectly! :rolleyes:
