Britpart Lift Pump

Its a britpart and its working yes but the manual prime lever (which was responsive before fitting it) isn't responsive at all. Ive tried turning the engine so that it stops on / off the cam but that makes no difference. Even if I hold the lever down with the engine running it isn't forced up or down!

Just a thought Pos... Did yer old pump have the spacer block fitted?

The old pump didnt nope, but the new one wouldnt fit without it =/ Do they take a hell of a lot of pushing against the cam to seat them?

Right, I just thought that I'd give y'all an update. I get fed up so went down to the local specialist (who I'm quite friendly with) and they had a look at it. They took the pipe between the pump and the filter away whilst I turned the engine over and fuel was blasted straight up onto my bonnet and all over the engine! It's obviously working fine. They tried fitting it without the spacer but it obviously doesnt sit against the engine because of the bolts which hold the blanking plates over the camshaft opening things. The spacer does in fact allow the pump to be installed so that it just misses these bolts, whilst still allowing the cam lobe to operate the lift pumps arm properly. The manual priming lever works on a slightly separate mechanism to the actual pumping arm, and isn't responsive when the arm is sat on the cam. They even steam cleaned my engine down so that I didn't drip ****e everywhere on the way home =) I'm a very happy bunny.

Am I right in thinking that the lift pump isn't always effective though, only for priming the system?

free pos, or in fact anyone else.

They wnt fit my engine, and i have 5 or 6 of them kicking about.

Just shout!

I have no need now boydy! This thing launches fuel :D Does the lift pump always help pump fuel along the line or does it become ineffective once the lines are full and the injection pump is drawing through?

It provides fuel for the injection pump. The crappy pump in the IP dnt have enough suck to pull fuel from the tank, it can only jus about push the excess back. The lift pump provides this fuel to it, for it to use as it needs, i.e. the lift pump provides more fuel than the IP will ever need.

Cool! I knew I could rely on you for a good answer :) It did gush fuel out when the pipe to the filter housing was disconnected!
