I thought it obvious, when its dark AND wet, OR dark AND foggy.....

I'm well aware of what sealed beam units are like, having owned multiple Land Rovers, MG's and Triumphs. Many of which have been used for commuting.

However when you are in traffic in certain winter conditions when it's dark (which for many of us is commuting time), a good set of lights makes a world of difference.

I agree with @zeaphod - I did this upgrade and it made a massive difference. I added in a relay and heavier duty cable to my second fuse box to feed the brighter bulbs as I was a bit worried about burning the original wiring out. Worked a treat and not that expensive.

I still don't understand why wet needs better lights? Is that so you can get more dazzle into oncoming traffic off the wet road surface?
And if you have aver driven in fog you would know that strong head lights are the last thing you need.
If its that bad for you why not just drive around with your full beam on?

I live in the middle of nowhere and run sealed beams , they work just fine.

Mind do work fine to be fair I just want to reduce load on the alt as I've got a very juicy split charger.

Just to put this back onto the original track.......

I have Nolden LED headlights on my 90 and they are ok.
A friend has Nolden LED's on his Defender Adventure (factory fit) and Britpart LED's on his day to day Defender and having been able to do a direct comparison says that the Britpart units are better in every way.

That's what I needed to hear. Do you know if I can just shove in Osram Night Breakers into the existing lights or do I need a kit for H4?

Plug straight in, the H4 is the standard Landy fitment. They are not higher wattage - just more efficient/brighter.

You just need to get the H4 units like the Wipac Crystal and then the H4 lamps you want to go in them.

They are E marked and very easy to install, on a standard H4 loom that your car already has. Just plug and play. Much better light output. Easy to align. And very eye catching if you're a poser. I did a 'best offer' price and got them at £200.
Pic is with just the halo ring lit which I have wired into sidelights.

I'm trying the Osrams first as they're plug and play. My main aim is to reduce load on my alt as I have some greedy things running. Cheers for the link.
