Hi I own a defender 300tdi 90 1995 & I'm due to fit an alisports intercooler which should give me some more power , will the brakes of a 110 puma fit onto my truck to help when it comes to stopping, apologies if there is a post covering this as I've searched but not found any
 
just fit vented / cross drilled and groved, with decent pads to front. wavy or not up to you.

I don't think the two are mutually inclusive ...
An Allisport Intercooler (good choice) will give you a bit more power and Puma brakes will likely fit your car but won't give you any 'improvement' over standard D90 brakes as they are the same.

110 rear disks are slightly larger than 90 rear disks, the fronts are the same.
They maybe vented (on the 110) rather than solid (on the 90) and each type needs a unique caliper.

I can lock my wheels with standard solid disks type and pads, I think the full kit (both wheels) was £65.
The key is to have working calipers that force both pads against good disks, sized pistons or worn out pads and disks reduces braking significantly.
Front calipers are £50 each for the cheap ones and £120 for better ones.
I've tried both and found that the cheap ones last about the same length of time as the disks and the expensive ones for around 2 disks.
 
OK thanks for that as the brakes are pretty good on her after we serviced em when we first got her 6 yrs ago as both front pistons where seized bk then , just wondered if fitting front brakes of a more powerful heavier truck would improve
 
EBC Greenstuff pads, much better braking, virtually no brake dust, I did notice the pedal travel was slightly longer, not cheap.

Drilled/grooved/wavy discs are going to make diddly squat difference on a road car.
 
Unless you do a high milage each year and therefore have to renew pads often do as I do and renew pads when they are about half worn. This prevents much of the caliper pistons being exposed resulting in corrosion on the surface and sticking when pushed back for pad renewal.
You can fit stainless pistons as another option.
The calipers are of a poor design unlike others types that have rubber bellows keeping crud at bay from the piston.

Standard Tdi brakes in good order should be more than up to the task.
 
I suppose if you can lock the brakes then it is your tyre that is the weak spot. I had aggressive tyres (insa turbo special track) and they were not the best when it came to stopping.

I have Britpart vented fronts and standard Britpart rears and I can lock all wheels on my 90 if I slam on the brakes - that's with general grabber AT3s. I think I used delphi pads (or what ever make Britannica Mike recommended).
