Bought it

Hi im new here, and after deciding that nothing else offers me and my family what the discovery does I bought that 2008 automatic cranberry one that we've been watching and that just wasn't selling, it drove quite like all the reviewers had described it would on YouTube, and seems pretty decent on the mechanical front , i plugged in my not so professional code reader and it gave it a no codes and no codes pending, however the codes could rack up pretty quickly when I plug in a proper landrover one as it has that awful handbrake noise and message about it on the dashboard , like its really loud , I'm also suspicious of the too clean pink coolent in the reservoir and the oil is towards the bottom of dipstick , also quite unbelievably the paint has faded out in areas like above the front screen etc, and there's hints of oily hands on the cream door cards etc hinting it working hard at times , but we still bought it , because nothing else we looked at makes us feel the same and it feels like it could be a fun journey ahead, or a nightmare , time will tell

If the electronic parking brake (EPB) is screaming when applied, then the EPB shoes need cleaning, lubrication, reassembly and correct adjustment, otherwise expensive damage is done to the EPB module.

It will be the first job done along with a nice change of oil and filter, hope it isn't too serious

If I sort the brakes and adjust as best I can do I then need a plug in tool to make the electronic box go back to centre or should they just work ?

If the EPB module is screening because the shoes aren't working correctly, or aren't adjusted correctly, then correcting that will cure the noise, and shouldn't need a diagnostic session, unless an actual fault with the module itself.

OK thankyou very much il give it a go next couple of days good to know I had it in my head I'd have to bring the module back to centre etc , as for the diagnostic I think il go with the foxwell for now but should probably be reaching higher

To me it sounds like your looking into things a lite bit too deeply. Quite often the OAT coolant does look very clean. Again, oil near the Low mark isn't the end of the world, if it was not on the dipstick at all it would be of concern to me.

Remember it is a 13 year old car, you could give it to one mechanic and they find not much wrong with it, give it to a D3 specialist and they may well be as pedantic as anything and you will have a list of bits as long as your arm that require "attention"
