Bought a foglight kit from the US/Different lamps? UK vs. US

They look nothing like the fog lights on my FL1. They seem to be poisoned to far around the bend of the bumper to me. I'll get a pic tomorrow to show what I mean.

Ps, Mines a 2006 facelift

Maybe the US have slightly different light positioning regulations to the EU ?

The V6 front bumper do look a bit longer:

The question would be if they fit. Is it just the upper part thats longer? If you see at the tow eye, they seem to be placed app. in the same place.
I doubt they made the frame longer for the US marked?

That would not suprise me. :) Was there not a story about the MGB and fitting som parts to the suspension to make the light legal (right height) over there? Doing wonders for the handling..

the v6 bumpers at the front are definitly longer i was sent one by mistake and thus know

It is longer by 50mm to accommodate the V6 engine's rad. This is why the support beam needs to be moved 50mm further forward if you are fitting a face lift front bumper as they were the same for every model including the V6. The tow ring is in the same place iirc.

Thats good news, I might be able to get them to fit then. If the angle of the bumper is the same? If not, I'll probably end up with a set of search lights.. ;)

edit: typo.

Alright, I'm going to attempt to cut the bumper this weekend, hopefully.
I need some input from you lot, I personally think the angel of the lower bumper looks the same in both the V6 and the petrol version. Anyone agree/disagree with me? Now is the time to speak up.... ;)
I phoned my local Land Rover dealer this afternoon, and they informed me that the "normal" forglightkit was supposed to fit both the V6 and Petrol.

Have a look here:

for what it's worth, I have the original parts and accessories brochure for pre-facelift freelander 1.

they offer the following variants:

fog lamp kit 02MY onwards LHD (except V6) STC53080
fog lamp kit 02MY onwards RHD (except V6) STC53081
fog lamp kit 01MY 1.8 LHD STC 50470
fog lamp kit 01MY 1.8 RHD STC 50469
fog lamp kit pre 01MY STC 7908

then has a note "Not available for 01MYtd4, not compatible with models fitted with engine and cabin pre-heater or td4 & automatic transmission cooler".

Crucially, it then offers:

fog lamp kit V6 02MY onward LHD STC53071
fog lamp kit V6 02MY onward RHD STC53072

and says "Specifically designed for the different V6 bumper profile"

Having looked at the photos in the brochure, they are definitely a different shape.

My take on the whole LHD RHD issue is not one of beam pattern, but more relates to the wiring loom. The kit comes complete with switches and blank panel, but the wiring route is still the same, through the bulkhead under the fusebox. Thus the wiring loom would need to be longer for the RHD kit than the LHD kit.

Oh, and maybe teaching you to suck eggs, but if you take the bumper off, the profile to cut should be embossed in the back of the bumper, ready to be stitch drilled. For what it's worth, I think the bumper profile is different, LR wouldn't go to the aggravation of a different kit if there was no need.

good luck

As Optimus Prime said. The V6 lower bumper has to be at a different angle to the 4 cylinder bumper. Could you not fit the V6 bumper? A bit over the top just for some fog lights but it would also give you space for a hidden which ;)
Oh the V6 tow ring is different too as it is thicker and vertical.

Thank you for that VERY useful information! Much appreciated. I guess I'll have to source a V6 bumper or a set of lights and fitting for a petrol model then.

Thanks again!

Well, there are a few things on the list before a new bumper! ;) But when it has passed the Norwegian MOT, I might just buy a V6 bumper and do the mods.
I guess my bull/nudge bar will not fit the new bumper?

Yeah, I noticed that as well, not that it is thicker though. :)

Perhaps I could modify the brackets to fit the petrol bumper? I'll have a look at it.

One problem is the price of a new bumper here in Norway. You probably get a decent FL in the UK for a price of a new front bumper. :(

It would be easier to get the correct fog lights. Changing the bumper would give you other problems with your nudge bar, in that it won't fit.
Keep it simple springs to mind ;)

Anyone with a car with the 1.8 fogs fitted, who can take some measurements for me? Need to know where to cut the bumper, don't want to make a fool out of myself... ;)

when you take the bumper off, there are marks inside where you need to cut ;)

I was REALLY hoping that I could get them on without removing the front bumper, due to just about every bolt is rusted and seized.. ;)

Edit, how is the access underneath the car? Would it be possible to gain access that way?
