boot floor replacement

Hey fanatic, nathan, redhand, I've starting using sheeps **** in my disco, anybody else tried it.
Works a treat. Great mpg and good cold starts!
 
Righto... back to the subject of the floor..

I've now completely stripped the carpets/trim/seats etc from the back half of the disco.. And the floor is er.. well more hole than floor.:doh:

The sides/arches etc are okay as is most of the front and back "lips" the floors sits on..but there are few places where the lip is shot and therefore these areas will need rebuilding/reinforcing.
Just costed up parts from paddocks.. floor + front and rear supports comes in just under 100 + delivery.
I'm also going to have to get some steel to repair/reinforce the lip the floors sits on.. so that will be a few more quid.
My friend has offered to have a go next weekend so I'm going to spend the next week drilling/grinding off the old welds and tidying up the remaining metal... I'll also give the chassis/cross braces a good lick of paint and some waxoil (seems sensible considering I can get at them easily with the floor out)!

There is a good chance that you will have to replace some of the boot floor crossbraces. Cut out the boot floor before you order, in case you need to order the crossbraces;)
 
Well... I cut all the floor out last week.. needed both main crossmembers and one bendy thin cross member as well as the floor and several patches to the side panels... But I underestimated my mates welding abilities and we managed to completely rebuild the floor over this weekend!

So.. including the ton I bunged my friend for giving up his saturday the whole job came in at just over 250 quid (120 quid for panels & extra 2mm steel and 30 quid for some rubber sealent paint (for on top) and some waxoil stuff for underneath))... It's not pretty but its rock solid and covered in so much rust treatment it will hopefully last for a few years! Happy days!

Now I just need to sort a leaking core plug (luckily it's on the side of the engine).. And I can start using the tdi and sell my old Mpi! :)
