Just noticed this by chance.
Should this bolt be out like this?
There is a washer on the bolt just rattling about.
You might have to zoom in to see it.
Cheers.....]

Yes sort this before using as you could strip the splines!!

Get a new VCU fitting kit, loosen the bolt head, slip a horseshoe in the right way around, it has a retaining bump on one side, then tighten and bend lock tab. Check the other one too.

17mm spanner will fit in the uj yoke OK.

Often horseshoe is fitted the wrong way around so that they slip out. Even seen them with the bump filed off!!

Could this be the cause of vibrations on deceleration? When I ease off gas to a steady lower speed the car sort of judders.
Feels ok when I accelerate again.

No!!

Bolt has a horseshoe fitting missing under the head. It has fallen out. Could well cause vibration and secondary damage.

Google a photo of how it should look!! I will also look for you.

Just watched a video of a guy removing the prop from the vcu and he did remove a quite chunky u-shaped washer from it. Is it one of these that I need?

Just had a thought about vibration thing.
When I first got car it was fine and vibration only seemed to start after I had it in garage for track rod ends, brake pipes and new fuel tank cradle. Any chance it could have fallen out while this work was being done?

Sorry for all the questions. When you put the horseshoe washer back in, do you tighten the bolt up tight to it? Will the little rusty washer that is still on there have to be cut off?
Thanks for everyone’s help.

Oh dear..............
That is a lock washer, please don't cut it off.
Perhaps it better go to a garage??
New lock washer, new horseshoe and fit it the right way around.
You do have to remove prop for the fuel tank cradle so it could have been a garage error, hard to prove now.
Good luck

Thanks for all the advice. Would the bolt come out far enough to remove old lock washer and to slide the new one on? Or does the prop have to be removed?
Think I might just have to get it in to the garage and have it done with the full service.

Hoping that this is the cause of the vibration and it will cure it. A bit of a coincidence that it only started the day after the other work was done

These are what you are looking for below.

The bolt holds the prop shaft to the VCU so yes most likely why you are getting vibrations

Thanks pal, I’ve ordered the parts. Which side does the little bump go? How does the locking washer work? How much should the bolt be tightened?
Thanks for all your help and advice.

Bump towards VCU away from lock washer side
Lock washer, fit the bent bit in the open end of the horseshoe then when bolt tight, bend tab over bolt head to stop it turning.
Torque is 65Nm but as you can only get a spanner in do it as tight as you can with a spanner!!

Thanks for all the advice mate. Have this morning replaced the horse shoe as advised by your good self. Used the bolt and washer which were still there and dogged the bolt up as tight as I could. There was quite a bit of play in the prop which I could move back and forth ( not any more). Hoped that this would cure the juddering on deceleration which was awful and driving me nuts! Took it out for a run to check it out......No more juddering and pleasure to drive again.
Thanks once again for all the help
