If there is no load on it, then it has no purpose. Adhesive will not work as a permanent repair under mechanical load and vibration.
 
Just been out and had a look with a torch and can see it better turns out it is the bracket as pictured and not the case cover. Now I've just got to find a second hand part as £300 for a new one is steep

That is exactly where mine broke off.
Not difficult to change the bracket. Fortunately I had a spare engine to rob one from. Don't have another sadly, just checked.
