Hi guys,

The end of my axle has been leaking for a while and i am running out of ideas fast. It looks like it's coming from around the rubber end cap. I have put a new rubber cap on, changed the gasket behind the drive flange and also the big rubber seal against the wheel bearing but the stuff still comes out!

Any ideas? It's a 1989 90 with the standard drumbraked rear axle on.

Thanks , Harry

Rear oil seal.

if its worn, EP90 will come through from the axle along the half shaft and out the end.

the oil seal is set in behind the hub on the outside of the 2nd bearing set. hope this helps.

Ah'd be tempted to check yer breather pipe. If this is bunged up then the pressure inside the axle will force the oil out.
Ah don't think ye need tae check yer seals unless it's grease comin' out. The only seal ye have from the axle tae the outside world is the rubber cap (apart from the gasket between axle and stub axle and the drive flange gasket). Have a look here tae see what ah mean...

Thanks buster, i did the breather because i thought it would be a quick job, it was that bunged that a compressor couldn't blow it through! eventually cleared it all out and put it back on with new seals around the union jobby so will let you know how it goes when i drive back to uni on sunday. Failing that i will be following griff and have the axle apart again :(

Aye nae wurries;) Should hopefully be okay now because there's no pressure in yer axles.
