Bite The Clutch Bullet..........

Good luck if you try it yourself, you're a more patient & braver man than I was!

Thanks GB

I'm changing my mind every few hours on the subject, I know I could do it, its making sure I've got everything I need, because once I start I won't have the opportunity to wait for parts as I have a two, maybe three day window to do it, in the dry, jacked up on axle stands. Or just pay the 400 (approx.) sheets to get it done.......... :(

I paid a local garage to do the labour on mine as it was last Xmas and I couldn't be arsed doing it in the cold on my drive. They charged £315 for a stuffed envelope.
They had to take the box out again after a few weeks as gear box oil was ****ing out of the bell housing.
They had damaged the seal in the trumpet that goes over the input shaft to the gear box which the slave cylinder sits on..........although I think it had been slightly damaged by the main dealer when they changed our gear box under warranty when the hippo was 12 months old.....as after that the bottom of the bell housing had always been a bit damp ( Valeo have a service sheet advising changing it due to possible damage during clutch and slave change)..... I have the part number somewhere.

Hi MJR

I'm probably going to do the same thing, there are some jobs which are just too much to handle within time / weather / capability constraints. I'll get all the parts I need and get the local garage to do mine. If you rustle up that part number that would be great :)

It's called a guide bearing.
Part number......UTL 100080L

Then under tis ther is an o ring
Part number........TYX100560L

Can't remember how much the guide bearing was.....£10ish, and the o ring was about £1.50

Well, got all the gear now (apart from the DMF, on order as we speak), and have the labour money burning a hole in my pocket (private jobs do come in handy sometimes!) and will book the FL in next week hopefully, I can still drive the beast, but third and fourth gear have to be treated with kid gloves......... gently does it! ;)

Well, I finally got the clutch assembly/DMF/slave cylinder fitted, dropped it off yesterday morning, picked it up after work tonight. A big difference, the clutch pedal is lighter, the bite is stronger, and it pulls like a freight train!!

Downside is, upon removal and draining of the transfer box, a fairly large amount of swarf / metal chunks were found........ doh!! At the moment, I still don't have the prop connected, so this isn't a major issue, but when I convert it back to 'full fat', gonna need a bit more private work to cover the cost. Time to start saving again, wonder if I can add this to my Christmas list.................? ;)

I had abit of debris in my IRD when i drained it to change clutch. I took the attitude 'will use it till it breaks'.

Seems pointless spending 650 on a new ird that i might not need before i sell the car? I dont often have a car more than a year because i get bored too quick

I see your point Kizzeh, and I'm still pondering whether to leave it in 2wd, as the outlay is a lot. But we'll see...............

Well, been running the car with the new clutch / DMF / slave cylinder for about two weeks now....... and have noticed a nice puddle of oil on the floor under the engine, coming from where the gearbox meets the engine. Called the mechanic, it's going back in on wednesday. Hopefully nothing too serious :(
