Biodiesel Newbie quick question!

Okay, I know a lot of info on this but need a simple answer first...

Someone quite local selling rape oil for 60p/l which is less than half the price of regular diesel.

Having read threads on here saying use neat veg oil I wondered whether I could stick it straight in and save a fortune!

So I suppose the question is can I use fresh oil or do I need to add to it or process in some way.

I know it has been covered but for a Disco 300tdi the general feel seems to be stick it in and go for it!

First off ,rape seed oil is not biodiesel.It is however a bio fuel.In a 300tdi it should be fine,but as we head for lower temps ,thin it further with a little petrol (5%-10%) or a higher percentage of diesel (20%-30%).Assuming it is new oil pour it in and add your petrol or derv-be ready to change your filter,carry spares on board/
remember your biofuel allowance is 2500 lts in any rolling 12 month period

I'm not sure that's right, just because I use veg oil doesn't mean I can I my drive 2500 miles a year. And the mot tester doesn't ask about fuel.

As far as I'm aware you need to keep a log with receipts and mileage you use eith veg oil. But obviously short of someone coming and che king your car every week there's no real way of checking.

As the weather is starting to turn cold make sure you have got a good set of glow plugs, if in any doubt change them, this will help cold starting on veg oil.

I put 100% veg oil in mine last month. (Engine still hot)
When I say 100%, I'm talking from near empty. Way beyond fuel light coming on...
It ran great.

Come to it in the morning - no amount of glowing plugs or 1000CCA batteries would get it to fire up. No sir-ee.
About 20 degrees on a sunny Septembers day.

To cut a long story short, I had to take fuel filter off, fill with diesel and turn over engine (now on recharged batts...) till it pulled the diesel through.

Cracked on with the day, did 150 miles, topped back up with diesel (took 24L to brim it again) and it's been perfect since.

you don't need to keep receipts,
you do need to keep records of amount used & date only.
if you don't have any records you can be prosecuted and fined
if too many people advise/say on open forums that their records are false or they don't keep any we could lose the 2500L we currently have.
play the game and we all win, be seen to cheat and we all could lose.

Costco. £12.99 for 20L.
Runs absolutely great on the stuff, when the engine is warm...

Thinking of incorporating some sort of secondary fuel tank to start/come home on diesel and then switch to veg oil for the main middle bit.

This would then negate the need to mix the two at whatever ratio depending on the time of the year.

No idea off the top of my head. It's just standard cooking oil.
Got 200L of it stored in the garage.

My guess is its heavy on palm oil, rather than proper veg/rapeseed at that price.

Possibly gummed up in the injector pipes or something like that.

Send me a photo of the box / can.
