Bit more welded today, and first coat of red
Buy a new spring seat and cut the whole lot out and repair it properly.

I think that the rot most likely spreads further back and is probably eating away behind the strengthening plate so likely to surface again further down the chassis leg.
What paint are you using... I thought it was Red Lead but then saw green one on the tin ?View attachment 154843 Spring’s off....
Decision time.
Cut out the rot from behind the spring and am left with this...

There looks like strengthening plates behind my hole which I’ve cut into.
How’s the best way to deal with this.
a) finish cutting them off and ignore them.
b) weld the slits up and grind down weld, make patch a bit short top and bottom, weld that to strengthening plate. Grind down weld, and then weld over strengthening weld and patch weld , like a third weld. ?? If that makes any sense.
The red is Bonda PrimaWhat paint are you using... I thought it was Red Lead but then saw green one on the tin ?
Yeh , was just a 1mm diskIf you have just caught that strengthening plate I'd weld the slit though. Hopefully it was only 1mm disc
Try a stud extractor, might go, but be warned, if the extractor goes pop it makes drilling that out much harder as they are hardened steel! It started to come out but seized and I couldn’t move it either way.
So do I drill and re-tap or drill and try stud extractor?
