Hi my name is sybill and I recently bought a 1999 defender 110. Ex MOD.
Good underneath, fair body work. Better than some I've seen. Doors are worst, most suffer with rust, rotten with the stuff. Mine have a little. But the biggest problem is they are slightly out of shape, still see daylight when shut thro the door frame. Would this be the door hinges, if not how do you realign the doors to the frame.
Don't want to buy new as they are salvageable.
Does anyone have any ideas.
 
Help yourself to whatever is in the cupboard :) It may be some time as our specialists are quite busy at the moment, so may not be able to respond as quickly as they'd like, but rest assured, your issue will be dealt with.

Easier said than done of on hols so can't post for 2 weeks.
Got this landy and its all going around in me head can't wait to get started, bet I won't be saying that in 2 months time. But yes will post piccies when I get back ta, finding this site great, have picked up bits already.

Moved from intro.

If you watch the vids of the last Fender coming off the line you'll notice a highly skilled production line fitter try the newly fitted door, casting his expert eye over the fit, opening it up, grabbing it at the top and bottom and giving it a mighty heave.

Of course it depends on exactly how they don't fit but I find it kinda reassuring that even in the factory they needed twisting until her eyes water.
 
As blue beasty says, it's very common for doors not to fit properly. I'd be surprised if any do without the careful use of thick foam tape to supplement the door seals.
You say out of shape, but do you mean they don't sit up against the seal all the way around?
You can get plastic packing pieces to go under the hinges. They are only a couple of mm thick, if that, but this can make a decent difference over the length of the door.
There is a little bit of movement on the hinges. If you loosen them off you can move the door and then tighten the hinges when they are held in their new position.
The hinge pins might be worn and replacing them might make all the difference.
When I rebuilt my Defender, the biggest difference to getting the front doors to fit was adjusting the number of spacer washers where the bulkhead bolts to the out rigger. Yours shouldn't need this if it was set up properly in the first place, I suppose you never know.

Good morning Sybill, and welcome to the land of loonies. In light of the fact that you are currently on holiday, and unable to provide photographic evidence of your defender doors, it would greatly assis if you would provide pictures of your holiday. Whilst, at first sight, this might appear to be an unassociated suggestion, images of your holiday will assist members greatly. :cool: Furthermore, if there is no such word as unassociated, you might better understand my ignorance, hence the need for photographs!
 
If they bend in too much wood in the door frame and slam it or like mine bent out have it open knee on bottom to hold open and pill the frame in. They aren't super stiff you can bend them. If you have friends they may be usefull to help.
