Made a start on cleaing up the axle casings last night... cup brush on my grinder... attempted the front first. It's cleaning up really nicely, but all the nooks and crannies are a nightmare.
Think I'm going to just drop these off at the local shot blasters.

Took the knuckles off, double hammer method cracked off the tapers like a charm...
Need to grab my mates balljoint tool now to press the old ones out before I take these to the shotblasters.

Swapped the coolant pump to manifold hose, my old one was weeping a bit...

I snagged this military 4 pin centre by swapping some parts with James Martin (had a good old chin wag too!). It's away being rebuilt with a 3.8 KAM crownwheel & pinion by Nige at Xcess4x4.com
Nige says the cross shaft is forged so will be 'super strong'.
I'm also having an Ashlocker built for the rear with a 3.75 Ashcroft HD CW&P.
The KAM is used and saving me some £££'s, the ratio difference of 0.05 is tiny and equivalent to usual tyre psi differences so won't be an issue.
Can't wait to see what the locker does around Tong, and what the ratio change does for drivability.

Yeah Nige is doing a cracking job, wouldn't expect anything else though TBH. If I wasn't having the CW&P changed I'd have had a crack at building these myself, but TBH I'd not have done half as good a job. And you know I like shiny
Hopefully have some more pics tomorrow.

Thats a really nice 4 pin Ben has here, its a PROPER LR long Nose Military model mit forged cross shfat - = f strong !
Some serious ultrasonics and polishing brough it back well, some deeper pitting cant be removed buts more than good now, which is as much down to what we do as more the metal quality it was made from. Back in the 80s what LR served up to Civvy Street and what they sent the military where hugely different !!!!!!

Popped the balljoints out of the axles...
Then they went to the blasters....
When the rain stops I'll get them into the shed and slap them up with red oxide.
