i have a 200l tank with a 16cfm motor on mine. i use both a shot blasting gun and a sand blasting pot. i reckon mine only just copes with either, but the motor is running constantly. i dunt think you would do it with anything smaller.

that dont surprise me Yella - but the manufs state 3.5cfm and 50L - i think they are talkin bollix - but i cant seem to get a definative answer.

what sort of shot blaster is it, my shot blaster is like a spray gun with a 1 litre pot on the bottom but because the shot comes out at such force it uses a lot of air very quickly. by the time the pot is empty it gives the compressor time to fill up again whilst yer stop to refill it and have a quick smoke

just looking at the pictures of that, am i being thick or what, where does the air go in and where does the shot go. if the shot goes in that big hole in the top, then how do you pressurise it?

It works on a venturi effect air passes thru a pipe with an hole in it. which creates a suction across the hole. The grit falls into the hole in the pipe and is fired out the gun.

mine is like yours, Yella - but i think, looking at the gun, the air going thru the gun draws the grit up the tube from the pot.

ah right. my sand blasting pot works like that but the pot itself is pressurised to force the sand outthrough the valve in the bottom

I must have missed summat here - so a 50L tank with a 7CFM compressor at 90PSI wont crack it - I was assuming that the 7CFM would cope - but it seems not

the problem is 7cfm is 200Ltr/min so a 50litre tank will empty in 15 seconds.

hang on - yes the 50L tank would empty in 15secs, assuming the compressor werent working - but if the compressor can refill the tank at 7CFM then it can repressurise quicker than it can empty - or is this another Whoosh moment?

and its much better than the shot blaster, i use kiln dried sand from the builders merchant fer 2 quid a bag.

the problem would be that your compressor tank has to empty one third before the motor kicks in, so by the time the motor has decided to start producing air, the tank will be empty
